Brown Sabra Rug – 140 × 97 cm, Hand-Woven Cactus Silk
This brown sabra rug is hand-woven in Morocco from sabra, the silky yarn known as “cactus silk”. Its warm brown is easy to live with and glows softly in the light.
What is a sabra rug?
Sabra is the Moroccan name for a silky yarn often called “cactus silk” or “vegan silk”. It is not silk from silkworms: the word describes its sheen and its smooth, fluid feel. Traditionally, sabra is associated with the fibres of the agave, a succulent that grows widely across Morocco; today much sabra yarn is a plant-based viscose with the same look. Sabra textiles are woven by hand, mainly around Fez and Marrakech.
What makes a sabra rug special is the way it plays with light: the yarn shines, so the colour seems to shift as you walk around the rug. Read more in our guide to sabra rugs and poufs and in our guide to the types of Moroccan rugs.
Sabra brings colour in a way wool cannot: the dyed yarn takes on a deep, saturated tone, and its sheen makes even a small rug look precious. A sabra rug can also be used as a wall hanging or as a runner at the foot of a bed.
Material, colour and design
Brown sabra yarn gives this rug a rich, silky surface: the colour deepens or lightens as the light changes. Smooth and cool to the touch, it feels very different from a thick wool rug.
Why choose this brown sabra rug?
A brown sabra rug is an easy way to bring light and colour into a room. Its silky surface catches the sun, it feels smooth and cool underfoot, and because no two pieces are the same, you get a rug that nobody else has.

- Keep the furniture around it simple so the sheen stands out.
- Add a matching pouf from our Moroccan poufs collection.

Care instructions
- Vacuum gently without the beater bar, or shake it outside.
- Avoid soaking: blot spills straight away with a dry cloth, then spot clean with a slightly damp cloth.
- Keep it out of strong direct sunlight to protect the colour.
- Turn it every few months and use a non-slip underlay.
- For a deep clean, use a professional rug cleaner.
Every piece is unique
Because it is made by hand, your rug may show small irregularities in shape, colour and pattern. They are the signature of the artisan and part of its charm.
Frequently asked questions
Is this brown sabra rug one of a kind?
Yes — this exact piece is the only one.
Is this brown sabra rug real silk?
No — “silk” describes the sheen and feel of the yarn. Sabra is a plant-based fibre, not a silkworm fibre.
Can a sabra rug get wet?
Avoid soaking it or washing it in a machine. Blot spills quickly and spot clean with a damp cloth.
Is 140 × 97 cm the right size for my room?
At 140 × 97 cm, this brown sabra rug suits a bedside, an entrance, a reading corner or the space in front of an armchair.
