Founder of MarrakechTribe
Hello, I’m Hattie.
I grew up in a little village in the Yorkshire Dales, surrounded by dry-stone walls, sheep and wool — so perhaps it was always going to be a rug that changed my life.
A few years ago, I travelled to Morocco for the very first time. I wandered through the souks of Marrakech, then up into the Atlas Mountains, and I couldn’t stop touching everything: the thick wool of a Berber rug, the hammered brass of a lantern, the hand-stitched leather of a pouf. In a small village, I sat with a group of women weaving at their loom, laughing and talking while their hands moved faster than I could follow. A single rug could take them weeks. I fell completely in love — with the craft, the colours, the patience and the people.
Back home in Yorkshire, I couldn’t stop thinking about it. I needed a reason to go back. So I started MarrakechTribe: a little business that takes me back to Morocco again and again, to meet the artisans and bring their work to homes like yours.
Every piece in our shop is handmade by Moroccan artisans, many of them women working in cooperatives. When you choose MarrakechTribe, you help these cooperatives earn a fair living, keep a centuries-old craft alive — and bring a little of Morocco’s beauty into your home.
Thank you for being part of the story.
